Senior Bollywood actress Zeenat Aman says that gender-based discrimination in the Indian film industry during the 70s while paying for work is still going on.
Zeenat Aman has shared a video of an old interview on the photo and video sharing app Instagram, which she gave during the shooting of the 1980 film ‘Qurbani’.
While sharing this video, he wrote that in the late 70s when I was rehearsing for the shooting of my song ‘Laila O Laila’ on the sets of the film ‘Qurbani’, I was interviewed by Keith Adam of the Australian Broadcasting Commission. was
He wrote that it has been almost 50 years since this video was shot and the industry has changed a lot since then.
He further wrote that women’s roles in films are no longer merely decorative, but one thing that has not changed even today is the discrimination on the basis of gender while paying.
Zeenat Aman wrote that in my time I was hailed as the highest paid female actor but the pay gap between me and my co-stars was so huge on gender lines that it was laughable.
She wrote that the beauty you see in this video clip was sure that half a century would be enough to end this discrimination, but I am disappointed that even today women are not working in the film industry. They do not get the same wages as men.
She further wrote that women have consistently worked and I believe it is now the responsibility of our male actors, directors and producers to ensure that all women in their production teams are properly compensated.
Zeenat Aman wrote at the end of his post that it looks very simple but if someone actually does it, it will be a revolutionary act.
