A 20-year-old youth was killed in a firing incident during Basant in Rawalpindi, while 34 people, including children, were injured as a result of aerial firing and kite string falling from the roof.
According to Express News, the people of the administration’s claims of ban on Basant and police actions opened the fort and they openly flouted the legal orders. A 20-year-old youth, identified as 20-year-old Arham Fazal, was killed by a bullet in the head due to firing by kite-flyers in Thana Airport area of Rawalpindi. After the incident, rescue volunteers and a police team reached the spot and killed the deceased. The body was shifted to DHQ Hospital.
According to hospital sources, 34 people, including children, were injured in various incidents of firing and stringing of kites during Basant, some of whom are in serious condition.
Meanwhile, SP Potohar Division Operator Aamir was slightly injured by a bullet in Rawalpindi police station airport area, the bullet hit his arm, after which he was shifted to the hospital.
In Rawalpindi, 10-year-old Abdul Wahab was injured in Dhok Mangtal while six-year-old Mutiullah was injured in Liaquat Bagh. Apart from this, fireworks and aerial firing continued intermittently in different areas and the police did not seem to implement the legal orders.
On the other hand, the police have claimed to have arrested dozens of kite flying and aerial firing by carrying out operations in different areas, while many kite sellers have also been arrested.
RPO Rawalpindi Syed Khurram Ali, taking notice of the incident of kite flying in Rawal Division, ordered the SSP Operations to take immediate action against those responsible for the incident and the houses where kites are being flown from the roofs. Directed action against the owners.
Syed Khurram Ali said that no person will be allowed to play with the lives of citizens.
