Washington: According to a new study, in the United States over the past 20 years, there has been a marked decrease in the number of deaths from cardiovascular disease, and the racial disparity in these deaths has also decreased.
The study, presented at the American College of Cardiology’s annual scientific session with the World Congress of Cardiology, found that over a 22-year period, heart attack death rates between white and African-American/black men increased by about It has been reduced by half.
The findings in the study are based on an analysis of data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) from 1999 to 2020.
The study found that deaths from heart attacks fell by an average of slightly more than 4 percent per year over a two-decade period, with no racial differences.
The overall death rate from heart attacks fell from about 87 deaths per 100,000 people in 1999 to about 38 deaths per 100,000 people in 2020, the researchers found in the study.
The highest heart attack death rate in 1999, 108 deaths per 100,000 people, was among African Americans/blacks, which dropped to 46 deaths per 100,000 people in 2020.
According to the researchers, however, it is difficult to determine whether the reduction in deaths is due to a reduction in the incidence of heart attacks or to better diagnostic procedures and treatment.
On the other hand, the public has also become aware of measures to prevent cardiovascular diseases, including quitting smoking and keeping cholesterol under control.
