He said that while making a film on such topics, the facts should always be correct, but for that there is no need to go too deep into research because I mostly make films on such topics in a way that I myself know about these historical periods. just wondering.
He revealed that whenever I make films on historical subjects, I think creatively about the sights of the past such as architecture, roofs, furniture and carpets in the film. It will look like.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali said, “So, research is done but not very detailed research because I find research very boring.”
He said that as a filmmaker I am not at all ready to make a documentary because I want to show all my impressions about historical subjects in the film.
He further said that people have seen the reality in a documentary film or series, but in the film they should show all that which they have not seen before, so how is Devdas? Obviously he is a literary character, but how is Bajirao Mastani? People have not seen Bajirao Mastani because this story is 300 to 400 years ago, so I have the freedom to present this story in my own style in my film.
The Indian director said, “I try to show these stories to people in a way that makes them feel that they are watching a film that is also connected to the present day.”
“If we had made a film ‘Baji Rao’ or ‘Gangubai’ fifty years ago, it would have been made in a completely different way,” he said.
So, there is a certain modern way of making a film on historical themes, we have to connect our audience with the story in such a way that they feel that they are also related to that historical period, he added.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali further revealed that when I decided to make the film ‘Gangu Bai’, people forbade me to make the film because the main character of the story is a woman and a film in India will not be successful in which a woman is the main character. A woman should be shown in the lead role and that too a woman who is a prostitute.
He said that despite all the criticism I made this film which was apparently a wrong decision but I got success because I believed in myself.
