The National Day of Vietnam is celebrated on the 2nd of September. The day holds remarkable significance for the Vietnamese as it commemorates their independence from foreign forces. The day is an occasion for the entire country to get together and celebrate their autonomy. It is also an event marked by uptick of economic activities and cultural participations. This report traces the historical foundations of the day, discusses its economic and cultural contributions, and investigates its significance in the current age.

Historical Account:

Under its imperialistic incursions, France colonized the nation in 1858 and continued to rule it for almost a century. As World War II broke out in 1939, a rising regional power in Japan launched an invasion of French Indochina in 1940. Japanese troops were stationed in Vietnam commensurate with Vichy France’s unremitting colonial administration. Japan ultimately achieved full control of the region in 1945.

Following the surrender of Japanese in the World War II and emaciated French control, Viet Minh capitalized on the power vacuum in the country and launched “August Revolution”, thereby seizing government offices. In a tongue-in-cheek move, Ho Chi Minh, leader of the revolution, declared 2nd September as the National Day of Vietnam since it was the very day the Japanese surrendered.

Conclusion and Recommendations

This day holds significant importance for the people of Vietnam as they value the sacrifices of their forefathers, who made Vietnam an independent state. To celebrate this day many people gather at the Ba Dinh mausoleum at 6 am to witness the flag-raising ceremony. A rise in personal expenses can be seen resulting in benefiting the economy however, some other activities can strengthen the international image of Vietnam.

The government of Vietnam can introduce exiguous activities except for the ones already in place. It can be environmental initiatives involving tree planning, and cleaning the roads and rivers, the next one being the social cause in which people would donate some amount to the animal shelter and some amount towards the education of the lower-class people.
