Karachi: Fasting in Ramadan not only brings a significant change in lifestyle, but also reduces feelings of stress and anxiety in a person due to fasting. However, it is important to avoid carbohydrates and fats to reap these benefits.

This was stated by Dr. Farhat Basheer, Professor of Medicine and Assistant Dean Clinical of United Medical and Dental College Karachi on Wednesday at Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), University of Karachi under the public awareness program “Ramadan and Health”. Dr. Panjwani said during a lecture held at the center on the subject.

Dr. Farhat Basheer said that there is a significant change in the fasting person’s eating, drinking and sleeping times, physical movements and social relations, while medically there is a reduction in mental stress and anxious feelings. On the other hand, fasting leads to weight loss and better cardiovascular function.

Dr. Farhat told the participants of the seminar that food and drink matters in Ramadan should not be against the principles of health, while the consumption of water after Iftar and before Suhoor should be more. Dr. Farhat Basheer said that the importance of Ramadan cannot be ignored even from a social point of view. He pointed out that people suffering from various diseases should consult their doctor about whether or not to fast, while people with acute diabetes or kidney failure or severe migraines should consult their doctor. , are suffering from ulcers and epilepsy, avoid fasting.
