Maternal deaths in the United States have increased manifoldMaternal deaths in the United States have increased manifold

Washington: A new report has revealed that maternal mortality rates in the US continue to rise compared to other developed and wealthy countries.

According to the American media, most women in the United States are dying in large numbers during pregnancy and childbirth due to easily preventable causes.

The researchers found that the rate of pregnancy- and childbirth-related deaths among American women in 2022 was 22 deaths per 100,000 births. This rate is double and sometimes triple that of other high-income countries, such as Norway, which recorded zero maternal deaths in 2022.

Munira Gonja, an author of the study and a senior researcher at the Common Health Fund, said the study exposes a dark side of how poorly the U.S. has fared in reducing maternal mortality compared to other high-income countries. . So now is the time to put what we know into practice. Other countries are already doing better than us with things like additional health insurance coverage, more workforce, support systems and paid maternity leave.
