Karachi: Garden Police arrested 3 suspects of the group who changed the IMEI of snatched and stolen mobile phones and recovered 17 stolen mobile phones and 1 motorcycle from their possession.
According to the details, the Garden Police arrested 3 accused Sameer, Muhammad Atif and Khalid of the gang who changed IMEI of snatched and stolen mobile phones while carrying out intelligence based operation and 17 stolen mobile phones and 1 motorcycle were recovered from their possession. .
According to SSP City Arif Aziz, the arrested accused are highly educated and skilled in IT, who used to change IMEI numbers of stolen mobile phones with the help of various software.
The arrested accused used to activate IMEI of stolen mobile phones by changing them with imported mobile phones and keypad mobile phones. The mobile phones recovered from them are confiscated and stolen from the limits of different police stations.
The accused have so far changed the IMEI numbers of hundreds of stolen mobile phones. During the investigation, they have taken the names of several shopkeepers who used to change the IMEI of stolen mobile phones from them.
The arrested accused have also changed the IMEI of hundreds of non-PTA mobile phones and made them active. Accused Atif and Khalid own a mobile shop in Sadar Diplomat Market. Both are partners. Accused Sameer has his own separate shop in the same market. Cases have been registered against them and investigation has been started.
