Karachi: Overbilling of billions of rupees on government institutions by K Electric has been revealed.
This was disclosed by the Provincial Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah during a meeting held with the Council of Economic and Energy Journalists on Wednesday. Nasir Hussain Shah said that K Electric billed government institutions for an additional amount of 20 billion rupees in 10 years.
He said that during the audit this year too, over-billing of more than 2 billion rupees has been proved by K-Electric, billions of rupees were provided to K-Electric for smart meters to prevent over-billing.
He said that K Electric has not yet installed smart meters in government institutions. SEPCO and HESCO have installed smart meters that are providing real-time data to the government.
He said that getting the data has brought transparency in payments. K Electric has not signed MoUs with the Sindh government yet. What will be the condition of the citizens if there is so much over-billing on government institutions?
Nasir Shah said that the government will form a joint committee to protect the citizens from over-billing, the Sindh government will not allow the people of Karachi to suffer the oppression of K-Electric.
