Application in Lahore High Court for return of PTI's batApplication in Lahore High Court for return of PTI's bat

Lahore: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf challenged the Election Commission’s authority to withdraw election symbols in the High Court.

Tehreek-e-Insaf Secretary General PTI and others filed a petition in which the Federal Government and the Election Commission were made parties.

The PTI took the stand in the petition that under Section Two of Article 17 of the Constitution, no political party can be prevented from contesting elections. And withdrawing election symbol from Tehreek-e-Insaf before general elections was illegal action of Election Commission.

The petition urged that Sections 215, 209 and 208 of the Election Act, including others, be declared unconstitutional, and that the ECP’s action against PTI’s intra-party election be nullified. The Election Commission should be stopped from taking any action against PTI and PTI’s election symbol should be returned.
