It has been decided to strictly monitor the movement of sacrificial animals before Eid-ul-Azha in Rawalpindi.
A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Rawalpindi Amir Khattak regarding the prevention of Congo virus, in which the department, livestock and administrative officers participated.
Illegal sale points of sacrificial animals have been banned in Rawalpindi through the imposition of Section 144.
In the meeting, Commissioner Aamir Khattak directed that the establishment of inter-provincial check-posts should be ensured before Eid-ul-Azha, banners of free veterinary facilities should be placed at selected sale points.
He said that the Livestock Department should set up mobile veterinarians and dispensaries, the anti-Congo virus awareness campaign should be intensified through loudspeakers.
Commissioner Rawalpindi has also directed to stop the entry of sick animals at inter-district check posts, to increase surveillance of slaughterhouses and butcher shops, to take legal action against cattle markets in densely populated areas.
