Karachi: The Sindh High Court accepted the petition against judicial reporting for urgent hearing.

The court reporters of Karachi channeled the notification of ban on reporting of court proceedings in the Sindh High Court. The Chief Justice Sindh High Court approved the petition for urgent hearing.

PEMRA, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and others have been made parties in the petition filed by Court Reporters. The petition states that PEMRA issued a notification banning the reporting of court proceedings on May 21. PEMRA rules allow for direct court reporting.

According to the petition, no meeting of the authority was convened before the ban on court reporting was imposed. Court reporters were not heard before being banned under PEMRA rules. The ban on court reporting is a violation of Articles 8, 9, 10, 18, 19 and 25 of the Constitution. The court accepted the application for urgent hearing
