The Lahore High Court gave the last chance to the Punjab government to appoint judges.
Chief Justice Lahore High Court Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan directed that the Chief Minister of Punjab and the Cabinet should issue notification for the appointment of judges till the next hearing.
A hearing was held on the Punjab government’s request to transfer cases from Anti-Terrorism Court One Rawalpindi to another court. The Chief Justice remarked that if the notification for the appointment of judges is not issued by the next hearing, then the Chief Minister himself should appear in the court.
During the hearing, Advocate General Punjab said that the government committee consulted the Chief Minister on the issue of appointment of judges and the Chief Minister has asked to keep the issue of appointment of judges in the agenda number one in the next meeting of the cabinet.
The Chief Justice inquired that when is the next meeting of the cabinet? You should have called a special cabinet meeting or done it through circulation, you should have done it and come today. Advocate General Punjab said that on Friday we will resolve this issue by calling a cabinet meeting. The Chief Justice remarked that even the people of the government committee did not come today, they respect the courts.
Advocate General Khalid Ishaq said that the people of the government committee will come in half an hour if the court orders, I call, the government has no objection to the names given by the high court for the determination of judges The Chief Justice remarked that no notification regarding the decision of the judges was presented in the court today.
The Lahore High Court adjourned the hearing till May 24.
