Islamabad: The Supreme Court has said that the media should refrain from broadcasting content based on contempt of court.
The Supreme Court has issued a written order in the Faisal Vawda and Mustafa Kamal contempt of court case, in which the court said that media organizations broadcasting content based on contempt of court or re-broadcasting content of contempt of court are also committing contempt of court. The media should refrain from broadcasting content based on contempt of court.
The Supreme Court in its order said that contempt of court action can be taken against the media for broadcasting such content. The court sought the complete transcript of the press conference of Faisal Vavda and Mustafa Kamal from Pemra. The court declared that the press conferences of Faisal Vawda and Mustafa Kamal fall under the category of contempt of court.
The court said that they are issuing show cause notices to Faisal Vawda and Mustafa Kamal for contempt of court. Both are being given an opportunity to submit an explanation in 2 weeks. Faisal Vawda and Mustafa Kamal also appear in personal capacity at the next hearing.
