Karachi: The Additional District and Sessions Judge Central sentenced the husband who threw acid on his wife to 14 years imprisonment with hard labor and a fine of Rs 10 lakh.
The prosecution succeeded in convicting the husband who threw acid on his wife, on which Additional District and Sessions Judge Zabiha Khattak sentenced the accused Shabbir to 14 years imprisonment with hard labor and imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh.
In the judgment, the court said that for non-payment of fine, another 6 months of imprisonment will have to be served. Burning someone with acid is a greater crime than murder. The accused has failed to present evidence in his own case.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place on June 2021. The accused threw acid on his wife Hajra. After making noise, the victim’s child went to tell her grandmother who lived nearby. The victim’s mother reached home with the locals, but the accused had escaped by then. Later, a case was registered and the accused was arrested a few days later.
The police said that the victim had given a statement that a month before the incident, the accused tried to kill her with a knife and a chopper, but in the meantime, her mother came home and saved her. The incident was reported to the police station and knives etc. were also given, but the accused apologized and promised not to do such a thing again. According to the woman, 2 days before the acid incident, she saw a bottle of acid in the bathroom.
A case of the incident was registered at Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police station.
