Karachi: Karachi (Court Reporter) The Sindh High Court has ordered the police authorities to submit a progress report on the request related to the recovery of missing persons. A hearing was held in the High Court on the petitions related to the recovery of missing persons. The court raised questions about enforced disappearance.
The JITs declared the loved ones of Muhammad Iqbal, Asma Nadeem, Sher Muhammad Khan as enforced disappearances. The focal person of the Home Department said that after the enforced disappearance, financial assistance was approved for their families. Financial assistance to the families of 29 missing persons has been approved by the Chief Minister House.
The court remarked that when it is admitted that the citizen has been forcibly disappeared, the reason should also be given. It should also be told where the citizens are and which organization has them.
The Special Public Prosecutor stated that the declaration of enforced disappearance does not necessarily mean that an institution has recognized the disappearance of a citizen. The Supreme Court remarked that then it should be told what is the criteria and procedure for declaring enforced disappearance. Special Public Prosecutor Habib Ahmed Advocate said that it is reviewed in the light of the allegations of the petitioners regarding the missing citizens. There is no law regarding it, this practice started in the light of Islamabad High Court decision.
The court remarked that the material in this regard, including the decision of the Islamabad High Court, should be presented at the next hearing. The court ordered to speed up steps to recover the missing persons and to submit a progress report to the police authorities.
