Karachi: In an important development for Pakistani Haj pilgrims, Jinnah Terminal Airport has been included in the Tomka Road Project.
Pilgrims going to pay for Hajj will be provided with better facilities than in the past under the Korod Tomka project. Pilgrims departing by pre-Hajj flights will have immigration at Karachi Airport instead of Saudi Arabia.
Saudi aviation staff will be deployed for the immigration of Hajj pilgrims, after which pilgrims will not need immigration at Jeddah and Madinah airports.
According to CAA sources, Karachi Airport preparations are in the final stages under the Road to Makkah project, space has been allocated for two counters by the Civil Aviation Authority for Saudi immigration.
According to Hajj Director Karachi Gulzar Soomro, the first flight will depart from Karachi on May 9 under the Road to Makkah project.
Under the government scheme, 16,281 pilgrims from Karachi, 1,000 from Sukkur, 2,200 pilgrims from Quetta will depart from Jinnah International Airport for Hejaz Muqaddis under the Road to Makkah project.
The government will also bear the cost of plastic wrapping of the goods of pilgrims leaving from Karachi. It should be noted that training sessions for Hajj pilgrims are being started in Karachi from Saturday.
