Karachi: Despite the significant decrease in the price of flour, the price of tandoori roti, naan and double roti could not decrease in Karachi, tandoori roti is still being sold at 25 rupees and chapatti at 15 rupees in the city.
According to Abdul Rauf Ibrahim, Chairman of Wholesale Grocers Association, the price of flour has decreased by 19 rupees and from the highest level to 40 rupees per kg during a month, in this sense, the maximum price of bread in Karachi should be 15 rupees.
He said that since Ramadan, the wholesale price of flour has come down from Rs 122 to Rs 104 per kg. Official flour rates are high while flour is being sold cheaply in the market.
Abdul Rauf Ibrahim said that the government of Sindh should re-evaluate and issue new official rates of flour immediately and then the rates of bread and double bread should be reduced accordingly.
On the other hand, the tandoor owners say that the price of gas has increased with the decrease in the price of flour. Due to the gas crisis in Karachi, 70 to 80% of the tandoors are running on cylinder gas due to which they are facing additional cost.
By justifying the increase in the price of flour, those who increased the price of bakery products such as double bread, bun and pape did not reduce the price either. Citizens have demanded that the price of bread should be reduced according to the price of flour and the prices of double bread and papa should also be reduced.
