Karachi: The Chief Minister of Sindh has announced remission of the punishments of the prisoners on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah approved a special amnesty of 120 days in the punishment of prisoners on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
According to the spokesman, the Chief Minister of Sindh has given approval to the request of IG Jails, IG Jails said in his letter that the chief minister has the special authority to pardon prisoners, Rule 788 of the Jails Rules, 2019. Prisoners under 120 days sentences can be waived.
The amnesty will not apply to prisoners convicted of murder, espionage, sedition, anti-state activity, terrorist activity, adultery, kidnapping/kidnapping, robbery, convicted under the Aliens Act 1946, involved in drug offences. Prisoners are also not entitled to amnesty.
Apart from this, this special exemption will not apply to the prisoners convicted in the cases of financial embezzlement and damage to the national treasury.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also congratulated the prisoners and their families who benefited from special amnesty.
