A new study has revealed that people with narcissism lead happier lives than psychopaths.
According to a study published in the journal Personality and Individual Differences, the higher the level of self-esteem in a person, the higher the level of happiness.
The purpose of the study was to explore the relationship between happiness and the dark side of three-dimensional personalities. Three-dimensional personalities include selfishness, greed for power (Machiavellianism), and apathy.
Machiavellianism is the personality type that uses any right or wrong means to gain power.
In studies of all three personality types mentioned above, narcissists showed the highest signs of happiness. For the study, researchers analyzed 432 participants, including diverse groups such as college students and older participants. Several diagnostic methods were used for the study.
The researchers found that higher levels of self-esteem were associated with significantly higher happiness, while those with depression were less happy with their lives. On the other hand, power-hungry individuals were found to have no significant relationship with happiness.
