Islamabad: The National Assembly Secretariat issued a party position under which independent members were denied recognition as members of the Sunni Unity Council.
Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq will take an important decision for the opposition leader today and in this context independent members have been recognized as PTI-backed members in official documents.
The National Assembly Secretariat refused to recognize independent members as members of the Sunni Unity Council. Independent members were not recognized to join the Sunni Ittehad Council in light of the Peshawar High Court’s decision.
Similarly, the tally of the ruling coalition was fixed at 226 while the tally of the opposition was fixed at 102.
In the opposition alliance, the number of independent members supported by PTI, Majlis Wahdat Muslimeen and Pashtun Khwa Milli Awami Party for the opposition leader Umar Ayub Khan becomes 90.
11 members of JUI and BNP Mengal have yet to support Umar Ayub as the leader of the opposition, while JUI and BNP Mengal have not yet submitted their candidate for the opposition leader.
The total number of members in the National Assembly is 336, out of which 328 have taken oath, while the seats of 8 members are still vacant.
