Karachi: The Sindh High Court has ordered action against the shopkeepers who charge more than the price fixed by the Commissioner Karachi for essential commodities in the month of Ramadan.
A two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Sindh High Court, Justice Aqeel Ahmad Abbasi, heard a plea on the sale of basic necessities in the month of Ramadan at more than the fixed price.
The petitioner’s counsel stated that during the month of Ramadan, the shopkeepers are selling basic necessities of life at more than the fixed rate and no action is being taken against the profiteers by the concerned authorities. Strict action should be ordered against profiteers who charge excessive prices. The prices of vegetables, fruits and pulses have also been increased in Ramadan.
The court ordered to take action against the shopkeepers who charge more than the rate set by the Commissioner Karachi, while ordering to submit a report on the actions taken against those who sell items at higher prices.
The court has asked the Sindh government, Bureau of Supply and others to respond by April 3.
