Islamabad: In the federal capital, thieves cut power cables worth crores of rupees from the Redzone, the 9-storey building of the Pak Secretariat and the Kohsar block of 15 federal ministries.
According to Express News, elevators of the building have been broken for several months due to theft of electrical wires, 14 elevators for 15 ministries are working in Kohsar block.
9 out of 14 elevators in Kohsar Block are broken, one for cargo and two for VIPs, only 3 elevators for staff of 15 ministries and citizens are operational.
Officials have been unable to catch or trace the thrice-threatened thieves even though CCTV cameras have been installed in the building and the building is under control of the PWD department.
Sub-engineer PWD Haroon Al-Rashid said that he reported 3 incidents of theft in the police station and registered a case, he has also written a letter to the Ministry of Interior to provide security.
Federal Minister for Privatization Aleem Khan took notice of the damaged lift in Kohsar block and directed the PWD officials to repair the lifts immediately.
