The Netherlands’ Military Intelligence Agency (MIVD) claims that Russia has sought to obtain information to target critical infrastructure in the North Sea.
The head of the Dutch agency, General Han Swin Linz, told a news conference that a Russian naval vessel was identified near an infrastructure that generates wind power in the North Sea region.
He said that the Dutch Navy and Coast Guards took the Russian boat out of the sea before the sabotage attempt was successful.
General Hahn said that we have observed in recent months that Russia is trying to find out information about energy systems in the North Sea.
“Russia is mapping out our wind energy infrastructure in the North Sea,” he said.
Two Dutch intelligence agencies said in a joint report released today that Russia could sabotage internet cables, gas pipes and wind energy systems.
Remember that on Saturday, the Netherlands said that it will expel Russian diplomats because Russia is sending its spies here under the guise of diplomacy.
The Netherlands also ordered Russia to close its trade mission in Amsterdam and said the Dutch consulate in St Petersburg would also be closed.
