Islamabad: During the hearing of the case against the closure of social media platform X, the court has remarked that whoever did it but the social media platform was closed.
Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamir Farooq heard a citizen’s request against the closure of social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
During the hearing, the lawyer of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority asked the court for time to prepare. The court inquired what happened to the petition filed in the Sindh High Court. There was to be a hearing on the contempt of court petition, on which the lawyer said that a notice has been issued on the contempt of court petition.
The court, while talking to the PTA counsel, remarked to submit a clear answer at the next hearing. The court should be told what is actually happening. The PTA lawyer said that we also have an objection to the admissibility of this petition, on which the court remarked that whoever has done it but a social media platform has been shut down.
According to media reports, work is going on loosely in Sindh as well. That is why you have been told that a detailed answer will be submitted in this court. The lawyer said that blocking the social media platform is a violation of fundamental rights, to which the court remarked that let the answer come now, don’t show your weapons already. That’s why I am not giving a long date and asking for a quick reply.
Later, the court adjourned the hearing of the case till March 26.
