Karachi: Pakistan Customs Post Clearance Audit North has registered a case against the fake unit after detecting tax evasion worth Rs 1 billion 8 crore under the guise of fake manufacturing unit.

Director PCA North Samiul Haq told Express that the said firm imported raw materials worth Rs 3 billion 70 crore taking advantage of sales tax and additional sales tax exemption for FATA/Pata region.

He said that the various types of fabrics imported by this company were validated and sold in the local market instead of being sold in FATA/PATA.

Director PCA North said that during the customs clearance audit, it was pointed out that Khyber Fabrics Embroidery has been found involved in misusing the tax incentives given in the name of FATA and PATA.

He said that in the name of this manufacturing unit of FATA and PATA, 4 thousand 63 metric tons of different textile fabrics were imported through 174 goods declarations worth 3.7 billion rupees, including polyester tulle net, polyester organza woven fabrics and used in blankets. Available printed and dyed bile fabrics are included.

Samiul Haque said that by taking advantage of tax incentives for FATA and PATA of these products, the importer evaded sales tax of Rs.72 crore, additional sales tax of Rs.12 crore and Rs.2355 crore of income tax.

Director North Samiul Haq said that during the raid it was also revealed that the textile mills located in Bara Bazar was actually a house in which there were two sewing machines and only 4 rolls of fabrics in the name of the factory.

He said that ample opportunity was also provided to the said importer to prove the legal transaction.
