Karachi: As the campaign of members of the Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD) not to buy Saria continued for the 12th day on Monday, the work on 300 construction projects worth Rs. The possession process will be affected.

Due to the suspension of purchase activities as a protest by Saria, the finishing work is going on only on those projects of the construction sector where the infrastructural work has been completed.

Association of Builders and Developers Patron Chief Mohsin Sheikhani told Express that the price of saria per tonne in the local market has exceeded Rs 3 lakh, due to which the increase in construction cost per square foot is affecting “low cost housing”. .

He said that Syria is available in the neighboring country of Iran at $555 per tonne, so the government should allow members on the butter system to import steel from Iran to continue construction activities and meet the shortage of residential units.

Mohsin Sheikhani said that Iranian steel is of high quality with 72000 psi while Pakistani steel is of 68000 psi. 25 to 30% steel is used in the construction sector. Two years ago, the price of local iron per ton was Rs.130,000, which has now exceeded Rs.300,000.

He said that due to rising inflation, the receipts of the construction sector are also affected and due to the lack of a clear government policy, the construction sector is in doubt about its future.

Mohsin Shekhani said that there are vast deposits of iron ore in the country which can be utilized to meet the local needs. The government should operationalize the iron over plant of Pakistan Steel Mills to free the construction sector from the tyranny of the private steel producers as the private steel mills are taking advantage of the ongoing crisis and are selling finished goods at high prices. Therefore, there is a danger that unorganized slums will flourish just by making Saria more expensive.
