Pasadena, California: A mountain at the moon’s south pole created by a meteorite impact is now named by NASA after its female scientist and computer programmer.
Now this mountain-like structure has been named ‘Mons Moton’ which is actually named after a female computer programmer Maliba Roy Moton. Although this bulge-like hill has been known to scientists for a long time, it was recently suggested by experts from NASA’s Viper (Volatile Investigating Polar Exploration Rover) mission.
This mountain-like bulge is caused by a crater and the crater was formed by an unusual meteorite collision. It should be noted that the Viper mission is part of Artemis, a larger project for human access to the Moon, which will land on the same location and conduct its own investigations.
Viper program experts have submitted the name of Melba Moton Hill to the International Astronomical Organization (IAU) which will be approved soon. It should be noted that Melba Roy Moton died in 1990 and she played an extraordinary role in several NASA missions.
