California: Technology company Meta has announced that it will remove the News tab in the Bookmarks section for Facebook users of its subsidiary social networking platform.

The Meta company launched the news tab in 2019 with a multimillion-dollar deal with publishers, but last year Facebook announced it was shutting down the feature in the UK, France and Germany.
Now this service is being stopped by Metta in America and Australia as well, the main reason being that users are not using this feature.
Meta said in a statement that last year in the US and Australia, there was an 80 percent drop in users of the feature, and only a small fraction of users saw the news content on the platform.
The company said that Meta’s latest move will not affect contracts with publishers until they expire.
When introducing the feature in 2019, Facebook said that the platform is optimistic that the effort will help better journalism and strengthen democracy. However, Metta’s decision has been heavily criticized by the Australian government.
Australian Communications Minister Michelle Rowland said the decision would cut off an important source of revenue for Australia’s media, with publishers entitled to fair compensation for their content.
