The 33rd Prime Minister of the country will be elected today

The National Assembly will elect the new Prime Minister tomorrow

Islamabad: The National Assembly will elect the new Prime Minister today, for which there will be a contest between PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and PTI leader Omar Ayub.

Nominated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is the joint candidate of Muslim League-N and allied parties. Shahbaz Sharif has the support of 209 members of the 336-member House, while the candidate of the Sunni Ittehad Council is likely to get more than 90 votes.

After the voting is completed, the Speaker will count in the presence of the National Assembly and after the counting is completed, the Speaker will announce the new Prime Minister.

Shahbaz Sharif has the support of Muslim League-N, People’s Party, MQM, Balochistan Awami Party, Stability Pakistan Party, Muslim League-Q.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has also sought support from Balochistan National Party, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam for the success of Sunni Unity Council candidate, but JUI has announced not to participate in the voting.

Earlier, League leader Senator Ishaq Dar along with the leaders of allied parties submitted the nomination papers of Shahbaz Sharif to the Secretary National Assembly in the Parliament House Chamber.

Asad Qaiser, Ali Mohammad Khan, Aamir Dogar, Junaid Akbar, Sunni Union Council members submitted the papers of Umar Ayub. Members of the Sunni Ittehad Council reached the speaker’s office shouting slogans. Speaker Ayaz Sadiq approved the nomination papers of both the candidates.

The meeting of the National Assembly will be held at 11 o’clock. A simple majority is required for the Leader of the House. The one who gets 169 votes in the House of 336 will be declared as the new Prime Minister of Pakistan.
