Pakhtunkhwa Assembly;  Babar Saleem Speaker of Sunni Ittehad Council, Suraya Bibi elected Deputy Speaker

Peshawar: The process of election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker in Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has been completed, in which Babar Saleem Speaker and Suraya Bibi Deputy Speaker of Sunni Ittehad Council were elected after secret ballot.

Babar Saleem Swati of the Sunni Unity Council got 89 votes while the candidate of the opposition parties, Ehsanullah Mian Khel, got 17 votes. Mushtaq Ghani took oath from him.

Later, polling for the Deputy Speaker was held and after the counting of votes, Sunni Ittehad Council candidate Suraya Bibi was elected as the Deputy Speaker. He secured 87 votes while PTIP candidate Arbab Waseem Khan secured 19 votes. A total of 106 votes were cast for Deputy Speaker, all of which were found valid.

The new Speaker of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Babar Salim Swati, took oath as the newly elected 22nd Deputy Speaker of the Provincial Assembly.

Earlier, the meeting of the provincial assembly was chaired by Mushtaq Ghani, in which polling was to be held for the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker, however JUI has boycotted the election process. During the voting, PTI workers raised slogans after seeing some other members casting their votes.

Babar Saleem Swati of Sunni Ittehad Council for the speakership will face the candidate of the opposition parties, Ehsanullah Mian Khel of the PPP, while for the deputy speaker, Soraya Bibi of the Sunni Ittehad Council will face the candidate of the opposition PTIP, Arbab Waseem. was

Pakistan Muslim League-N has nominated Dr. Ibadullah for the opposition leader in Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, while the election for the post of Chief Minister will be held tomorrow, in this regard, Pakistan Muslim League-N nominated Dr. Hisham Inamullah. While Ali Amin Gandapur will contest the Chief Minister election as an independent.

The number of members in the Provincial Assembly has increased to 118, in which the number of members of the Sunni Ittehad Council is 87, while 6 members are present in the assembly as independents. The number of members of opposition parties in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is 25.

Later, the Speaker adjourned the meeting of the Provincial Assembly till tomorrow. The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be elected tomorrow at 10 am on Friday. Nomination papers in this regard can be submitted till 5 pm today and withdrawn till 11 pm.
