California: Technology company Meta has confirmed the introduction of a feature called ‘Friend Map’ on its subsidiary social media platform Instagram.
Similar to Snapchat’s ‘Snap Map’ feature, this feature will help users see the current location of their friends.
The in-development feature was spotted by mobile developer Alejandro Pelosi (who usually spots social media features before launch).
According to screenshots shared by Alejandro Pelosi on the social networking platform’s threads, Instagram’s Friend Map will allow users to choose who can see their location. In this regard, users will have the option of their followers who follow them, close friends and nobody.
According to the screenshot, the location data will be end-to-end encrypted and will also have a ‘ghost mode’ feature to hide the user’s last active location.
If Instagram officially introduces the feature, it will be the second feature that the platform will copy from Snapchat after Snapchat copied the Stories feature in 2016.
