Peshawar: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has won the seats needed to form the government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the party’s provincial president Ali Amin Gandapur is expected to be the next chief minister.
PTI has won majority in National and Provincial Assembly seats from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where candidates have won from Chitral, Abbottabad, Swat, Charsadda, Swabi, Nowshera, Mohmand, Khyber, Mardan and Bannu.
73 seats are required in the assembly to form the government in the province, while 76 independent candidates supported by PTI have won according to the provisional and unofficial results.
PTI has won the majority and is in the position of forming the government for the third consecutive time in the province without any ally and Ali Amin Gandapur can become the third Chief Minister from Dera Ismail Khan, before him Mufti Mehmood and Sardar Inayatullah Khan Gandapur. He also belonged to Dera Ismail Khan.
Earlier, PTI formed the government in the province for the first time in 2013 and Pervez Khattak became the Chief Minister, after which Mehmood Khan was elected as the Chief Minister in 2018.
Ali Amin Gandapur became a minister in the provincial government for the first time and became a part of PTI’s federal cabinet in 2018.
