Karachi: The Sindh High Court directed the petitioner’s counsel to prepare and appear on the petition against the possible privatization of PIA.
The petition against the possible privatization of PIA was heard before a two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Sindh High Court Justice Aqeel Ahmad Abbasi.
Chief Justice Aqeel Ahmed remarked that when things are not handled, institutions are not run and they are privatized. God knows, someday this country will be privatized. They say that the institution is losing money, they have to give subsidy, what will happen if they were such good institutions?
The petitioner’s lawyer, Zafar Ahmad Timuri, stated that it is a case of public interest, a notice should be issued and the government should be asked to respond.
Chief Justice Aqeel Ahmad Abbasi remarked that the court should first be satisfied as to which law is being violated.
Counsel for the petitioner took the stand that the Privatization Act, 2016 was amended in 2023. Privatization of PIA will result in loss of thousands of employees.
Justice Aqeel Ahmad Abbasi while giving remarks said that it is a big case, come prepared, the court will not issue notice blindly. The court directed the petitioner’s counsel to prepare and appear.
