Rawalpindi: Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed’s bail case is pending, due to which he is likely to contest the elections from jail.
A hearing on the bail application was held in front of Judge Malik Ijaz Asif of the Anti-Terrorism Court, in which the public prosecutor filed objections to Sheikh Rasheed’s bail application. The court declared all the objections valid and ordered the lawyer to remove the objections and adjourned the hearing of the bail application till February 6.
Due to the objections to the application of the former federal interior minister and the postponement of the hearing, his bail matter has been suspended due to which there is a possibility of Sheikh Rashid Ahmed contesting the elections from the jail as well as voting from the Adiala jail itself.
In the objections filed on the petitions of Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, it has been held that no order of the court and the High Court regarding the cases related to the May 9 tragedy is attached to the petition. The certified copies of the judgments given by the High Court in this regard were also not enclosed with the application.
In the objections raised by the public prosecutor, it has been further stated that none of the bails granted and rejected have been decided. Apart from this, there is no mention of former Deputy Speaker Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi, Sadaqat Abbasi, Colonel Ajmal Saber becoming sworn witnesses, on which Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Malik Ijaz Asif declared all the objections valid.
It should be noted that due to the holiday in the High Court and Subordinate Courts on February 5, it is not possible to obtain copies, however, on February 6, there will be only one day left for the election to apply for certified copies.
