Karachi: Saeed Ghani, leader of Pakistan People’s Party, while addressing the press conference of MQM leaders, said that a tragic incident has taken place in District Sentral, New Karachi, which should be investigated by a court.

Pakistan People’s Party leader Saeed Ghani said in a video statement while conducting the press conference of MQM leaders that a tragic incident has happened at New Karachi in District Sentral when the candidates of National Assembly NA-247 of People’s Party were holding their corner meeting. The organizers told them to leave immediately because they had seen some movement that there was some danger. The firing took place as a result of which an 11-year-old child, Abdul Rahman, who was present at the meeting with his family, and another person, also named Abdul Rahman, were also injured.

Saeed Ghani says that this sad incident is a continuation of the events that have been happening in the district central for the past several days, the Pakistan People’s Party office was attacked and the workers were harassed, there was talk of taking down the flags and banners of the People’s Party with continuity. Incidents are happening, he said that a few days ago an incident took place in Nazimabad in which one worker of MQM was killed and three workers of People’s Party were injured. The judge should be investigated, but nothing happened.

He said that three workers of Pakistan People’s Party were injured, two vehicles of our candidate were burnt, his FIR has not been filed by the police till date and now another incident has happened. If action had been taken, perhaps we could have avoided these incidents. If the police had taken action against the people involved, perhaps these incidents could have been avoided.

Saeed Ghani said that the situation in the city is not good for the peace and order of the city and it is becoming the biggest obstacle in the way of holding peaceful elections. He said that we should receive more such reports from the city. Our corner meetings and election activities are being obstructed, our workers are being harassed and they are being prevented from campaigning.

He said that he wants to demand the Election Commission of Pakistan, caretaker government and law enforcement agencies to stop these incidents and take strict legal action against those involved in these incidents. The fear that the fire should not spread across the city would in no way bode well for the political process, nor would it bode well for efforts to make elections peaceful.

The PP leader said that the situation that is being created will benefit those powers who are seeing their defeat in the elections and who want the elections to be controversial. In order to maintain law and order, action should be taken against the people involved and especially all the videos of the Nazimabad incident should be watched and an investigation should be conducted by the High Court judge.
