London: British researchers are trialling a blood test that could help diagnose different types of brain cancer.
According to experts, this simple test will help reduce the need for risky surgeries to diagnose brain tumors.
In research published in the International Journal of Cancer, experts said the test could help diagnose the deadliest form of brain cancer early, speed up treatment and potentially improve survival rates.
Brain tumor experts have welcomed the news of the test, saying that the test is cheap and can be easily introduced in hospitals.
According to experts, liquid biopsies will be particularly useful for patients with tumors in the brain that cannot be accessed. This test can help these people start treatment early.
Researchers from the Brain Tumor Research Center of Excellence, run by Imperial College London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, carried out preliminary studies to see if the test could accurately diagnose glial tumours. The most common types of these tumors include glioblastoma (GBM), astrocytomas, and oligodendrogliomas.
