Islamabad: Supreme Court Justice Mansoor Ali Shah has remarked during the hearing of the case that contesting elections is a fundamental right, how can anyone be deprived without the law.
Separate cases of rejection of nomination papers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders were heard in the Supreme Court, in which the Supreme Court announced its decision.
Supreme Court allowed PTI leader Umar Aslam to contest elections. Umar Aslam’s nomination papers were rejected on the grounds of absconding in the May 9 cases. The court said that contesting elections is a fundamental right. A fugitive person cannot contest elections, tell me where it is written. Justice Athar Manullah remarked that the decision of the election has to be taken by the people.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah said that without law, how can anyone be deprived of the fundamental right. Justice Athar Manullah said that the petitioner coming before us is not important, the rights of the people are being affected. Accountability has to be done by the people, not by the Election Commission.
The opposing side of the case argued that Umar Aslam was not present at the time of scrutiny, while the Election Commission’s lawyer said that the work of ballot papers had been completed, on which Justice Athar Manullah said that following the court decision is an election. Commission is responsible.
It should be noted that PTI leader Umar Aslam is participating in the elections from National Assembly Constituency NA-87 Khushab.
