Compensation payments to families of missing persons stopped, Interior Department reports in court

Karachi: The Sindh Home Department has informed the Sindh High Court that the payment of compensation to the families of the missing persons has been stopped.

The Sindh High Court ordered to submit a report to the Federal Interior Secretary, Defense Secretary and others on the applications related to payment of compensation to the families of the missing persons.

In front of the 2-member bench of the Sindh High Court headed by Justice Nimatullah Phalpoto, the petitions related to the payment of compensation by the government to the families of the missing persons were heard, in which the representative of the Sindh Home Department informed the court that the Sindh Home Department The government has stopped providing compensation to the families of the missing persons.

The focal person said that some people objected to the issue of payment of compensation, so it was stopped. Justice Nimatullah Phalputo remarked that people who have objections should stop giving money. The families of the missing persons who want to get compensation from the government should get them. Enforced disappearance means a citizen is held by an agency.

The court directed that until the missing person is produced in a court, the government should continue to pay compensation to the families. The court ordered publication of advertisements in print and electronic media to trace Shahri Majid, who has been missing since 2015. The court also directed to get the information of the missing persons from the jail authorities and other places of the country.

The court ordered the Federal Interior Secretary, Defense Secretary and others to submit a report on February 28.
