Complete ban on political gatherings in garrison areas in Punjab

Lahore: The caretaker government of Punjab banned all kinds of political gatherings, display of flags and banners in the garrison areas.

According to the details, a meeting of the Provincial Apex Committee was held in the Chief Minister’s Office under the chairmanship of the caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi and Corps Commander Lahore Lieutenant General Syed Amir Raza. In which the security arrangements for the general elections were carefully reviewed.

Provincial Election Commissioner Punjab Ijaz Anwar Chauhan, Chief Secretary, IG Police, DG Rangers Punjab, officials of other law enforcement agencies and civil and military officials participated in the meeting.

Election Commissioner Punjab, Home Secretary and other officials gave a briefing on the election arrangements, while safe transportation of ballot papers, 3-tier deployment of police, rangers and army troops were discussed.

In the meeting, a briefing was given on security of polling stations, installation of CCTV cameras, control rooms and other issues. The Apex Committee also agreed to ensure strict implementation of the Code of Conduct issued by the Election Commission.

Comprehensive measures to ensure peace and order during the elections were reviewed, while the need for an exemplary partner for peace and order before, during and after the elections was emphasized.

In the Apex Committee meeting, it was decided that the ban on display and transportation of weapons will be strictly implemented on election day, while social media will be strictly monitored on election day and action will be taken against those who spread mischief.

The meeting decided that political gatherings, processions, display of flags and banners will not be allowed in the garrison areas.

Chief Secretary Punjab told the participants that a checklist and handbook have been provided for the guidance of police, administration and other institutions.

Speaking to the participants on this occasion, Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that all measures will be taken to provide the voters with the opportunity to vote in a peaceful environment and the participation will be made ideal for the peaceful conduct of the elections.

Corps Commander Lahore Lieutenant General Syed Amir Raza said that security will be ensured with the close cooperation of various departments for the peaceful conduct of the election. Full focus is on security to ensure peace and order.

In the meeting, the joint effort to thwart the recent terrorist attack in Dera Ghazi Khan was also appreciated and commitment was expressed to continue mutual cooperation to achieve common goals in the light of the National Action Plan.
