Lahore: The Lahore High Court issued notices to the Election Commission and others on the petition of Salman Akram Raja against declaring himself as an independent candidate.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Ali Baqer Najafi conducted the hearing. Election Commission and others were made parties in the application.
The petition states that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has been registered as a political party in the Election Commission since 1996 and the petitioner is a PTI-backed candidate from NA-128.
Salman Akram Raja requested that the court annul the decision of the Election Commission to declare an independent candidate and order to list the PTI candidate on the ballot paper.
The court adjourned the hearing till January 25.
