Sophia: The bodies of 18 Afghan immigrants, including children, have been recovered from a truck in the capital of European country Bulgaria, on which 4 suspects have been detained.
According to the British news agency, wooden compartments were made in this truck, in which 34 people, including 6 children, were hidden. The deceased died due to suffocation.
Of the 34 survivors, 16 have been shifted to hospital, including 5 children. All of them were suffering from lack of oxygen and food, but now their condition is out of danger.
The police say that 4 people have been detained for trying to smuggle Afghan migrants to European countries, one of whom has already served a sentence.
Since the establishment of the Taliban government in Afghanistan last year, international funds have been frozen and poverty has intensified in the country.
Due to the strict restrictions of the Taliban and poverty, many Afghan citizens fall victim to this type of accident while trying to go to European countries.
It should be noted that in 2015, 3 Bulgarian truck drivers were sentenced to death after 71 migrants were found dead on a motorway in Austria.
That’s why in December last year, Bulgaria was barred from entering the EU’s passport-free zone by Austria and the Netherlands over security and rule-of-law concerns.
