Threats to investigating officers who identify money laundering in the guise of imported solar panels

Karachi: The Directorate of Post Clearance Audit Customs, an agency that identifies and investigates money laundering of billions of rupees under the guise of imported solar panels, is facing threats from the involved elements.

This was revealed in a report sent by the Directorate to Member Customs Operations FBR. The report stated that during the investigation of a money laundering scam worth billions of rupees under the guise of solar panels, the officials of PCA South were unsuccessfully attacked in City Court Karachi.

The report said that a complaint was filed with Additional Sessions Judge South Karachi on behalf of one of the importers M/s ERMI FRESH involved in the case registered against 12 fraudulent importers involved in the money laundering scam of 16 billion rupees, after which P An attempt was made to physically assault the CA officers.

The report states that Farhan Khalid, the representative of the said company involved in money laundering, applied for bail before his arrest, who reached the customs court in a vehicle bearing the number plate of the federal government, green GP 6369.

The report stated that on inquiry by the IO, the GP registration number was attributed to the Sindh High Court, which later proved to be a false statement as GP number plate vehicles are used by federal government agencies.

The report states that the owner of M/s Armi Fresh also recorded a video statement on the spot claiming that the agent Waseem Tanuli (real name Muhammad Pervaiz) had committed fraud in the name of his company without his permission. Approved. Counsel representing M/s Armi Farish pressured and threatened the PCA team to delete the photos and video recordings, however the PCA team defied the threats and stood firm.

According to the report, in retaliation, M/s Ermi Farish along with his lawyer filed a fake complaint against PCA investigating officer Syed Ghazanfar and Assistant Director Sultan Aurangzeb in the court of Additional Sessions Judge South Karachi. The report revealed that during the hearing, the court room in the City Court Karachi turned into a battlefield as 50 to 60 lawyers systematically attacked the PCA team. The aim of the assailants was to get the mobile phone of the investigating officer and delete the incriminating evidence of the vehicle with GP number plate and the video statement, but the lawyers were dispersed by the intervention of the Customs Prosecutor and the Additional Sessions Judge.
