Khyber: The Torkham border crossing remained closed for two-way trade for the sixth day today, leaving thousands of vehicles stranded.

According to customs sources, a ban was imposed on vehicles entering Afghanistan without travel documents 6 days ago, after which thousands of cargo vehicles on both sides of the border crossing are stuck due to closure of Torkham border.

Meanwhile, Afghan forces have also stopped the entry of Pakistani cargo vehicles.

Travel documents for drivers were decided by the federal government last year. Daily exports worth 3 million dollars through the Torkham border crossing, while daily imports with Afghanistan amount to 540 million rupees.

Customs sources say that import and export generate a revenue of Rs 5 crore per day to the national exchequer.

The Torkham border crossing has been restored to normal for foot traffic.
