Do not turn this city into a jungle and fulfill your responsibility, Justice Nadeem Akhtar
The Sindh High Court has ordered the administration to remove all political banners from signboards, hoardings, flyovers and pedestrian bridges on the highways across Karachi and to take action against the political leaders who displayed the pictures.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Nadeem Akhtar heard the petition regarding the ban on billboards and hoardings in public places in the city.
Justice Nadeem Akhtar in a dialogue with KMC and Cantonment lawyers said that do not turn this city into a jungle and fulfill your responsibility.
The lawyer of the Cantonment stated that while we are taking action, some obstacles are coming.
The court expressed extreme anger at this position and remarked that if they cannot work, then close the cantonment.
The court ordered the removal of all political banners from signboards, hoardings, flyovers and pedestrian bridges across Karachi.
Justice Nadeem Akhtar remarked that a case should be registered against the political leader whose pictures are on the billboards and hoardings.
The Supreme Court also ordered the Election Commission and the civic administration to take action against the political leaders who displayed the photos.
Justice Nadeem Akhtar said in his remarks that what do we want to tell the visitors to the city, is it a city of civilized people or a jungle?
The High Court ordered to remove all billboards and hoardings from across the city and submit a report on January 31.
In the petition filed, the position was taken that the Supreme Court had given a decision in 2016 to ban billboards, hoardings. Despite the ban, billboards are being put up in public places.
