Sharp differences in PTI Karachi, Awab Alvi's decision to contest election against Khurram Sher Zaman

Karachi: President Arif Alvi’s son has decided to contest the election as an independent candidate from National Assembly Constituency NA-241 against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s candidate Khurram Sher Zaman.

According to the details, the party was divided into different factions on the distribution of tickets in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Karachi and the workers bluntly protested against giving tickets to the candidates and demanded that tickets should be given to those who stood with the party in difficult circumstances.

On behalf of Tehreek-e-Insaf, three tickets were given in the house of party leader and former opposition leader of Sindh Assembly Halim Adil Sheikh, out of which two nationals and one brother have been given tickets for the provincial assembly.

On this, the party members expressed strong concern, on which the party leadership withdrew the ticket from Naeem Sheikh, the brother of Haleem Adil Sheikh, from the provincial assembly seat PS 123.

Apart from this, the PTI leadership also instructed Awab Alvi, the son of Arif Alvi, to step down, but he has decided to contest the elections as an independent against Khurram Sherzaman, due to which serious differences have arisen in the party.

Activists have expressed strong reservations over the issuance of tickets to some lawyers and have alleged that Haleem Adil Shaikh’s prosecution of cases for free has been rewarded in the form of tickets.

On the other hand, the leadership of Karachi is unhappy with the political activities of Sher Afzal Marwat and they have demanded from the party leadership in Islamabad that Sher Afzal Marwat should be summoned to Islamabad immediately. He has refused and said that he will only work on the instructions given by the PTI founder.

Sources say that Tehreek-e-Insaf has divided into different factions in Karachi due to which the leadership is facing difficulties. Serious reservations were expressed by senior party leaders and workers over the distribution of tickets in Karachi.

The sources of Tehreek-e-Insaf said that tickets have been distributed to the lawyers who are following the cases of Haleem Adil Sheikh for free, while the former opposition leader had two national and one provincial assembly tickets in his house, but the party leadership has given Naeem, a brother of Haleem Adil, to his house. Sheikh’s ticket was withdrawn.

The sources said that the former member of the provincial assembly Adeel has also expressed his concerns that the seat where Haleem Adeel Sheikh submitted his nomination papers from NA-238, he wanted the National Assembly ticket from that seat. The party leadership has decided to give tickets to all those people who did not leave the party during difficult times.

According to PTI sources, Alamgir Khan, Saifur Rahman, Faheem Khan, Raja Azhar, Rabistan Khan, Jamal Siddiqui, Aftab Jahangir and others are involved in the difficult time, while Tehreek-e-Insaf has issued ticket to Khurram Sherzaman on constituency NA 241 in Karachi. The spokesperson of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Karachi, while commenting on this situation, said that there were concerns of the leaders and workers regarding the distribution of tickets in the party, which the party leadership investigated and removed the legitimate concerns.

He said that some tickets have been changed and all the National and Provincial Assembly tickets have been issued after consultation with the party. While Sher Afzal Marwat is running an election campaign across Sindh including Karachi on the instructions of the party leadership, there are no reservations regarding him, Tehreek-e-Insaf will conduct a clean sweep from the entire country including Karachi on February 8.
