Peshawar: An important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Justice Retired Syed Arshad Hussain Shah in which the preparations of the provincial government for the upcoming general elections were reviewed in detail.
The concerned Provincial Ministers, Chief Secretary, IG Police, Additional Chief Secretary Home and other concerned officials participated in the meeting while Divisional Commissioners and RPOs participated in the meeting through video link.
While briefing the meeting on the preparations for holding the general elections and the progress so far, it was told that for the first time in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the elections for the provincial and national assemblies are being held simultaneously in the merged and arranged districts, the national assembly in the province. Elections will be held on 45 and 115 general seats of the provincial assembly.
The meeting was told that 15737 polling stations will be established in the province for the general elections, 4812 polling stations are most sensitive, 6581 sensitive while 4344 are declared normal, 1919 polling stations will be in snowy areas.
The number of registered voters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is two crore 16 lakh 92 thousand 381, 11 security personnel will be deployed at the most sensitive polling stations of the merged districts and southern districts, 7,7 security personnel will be deployed at the most sensitive polling stations of the rest of the districts. The meeting was informed that 5552 CCTV cameras are available for installation in polling stations, and Rs 986 million has been released for provision of another 11668 cameras.
Ramps are available in 11689 polling stations for the convenience of disabled persons while another 1536 ramps are under construction.
The concerned Deputy Commissioners have drawn up plans for the election process in snowy areas, ensuring the availability of machinery and manpower required to remove snow from the roads for conducting elections in snowy areas.
During the briefing, the concerned officials said that a comprehensive system of coordination between all stakeholders at all levels has been devised to ensure peaceful, fair and transparent conduct of general elections, security of top political leaders on polling day. Plans are being drawn up at PO level.
During the meeting, Caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Justice Retired Syed Arshad Hussain Shah said that the Caretaker Provincial Government will ensure all possible measures to conduct peaceful, clean and transparent general elections.
He directed that all the Divisional Commissioners, RPOs, Deputy Commissioners and DPOs should ensure the implementation of plans and decisions of the provincial government related to the general elections. Ensure all possible support is provided to the staff.
The Caretaker Chief Minister said that in connection with the conduct of the general elections, the implementation of the Election Commission’s orders and code of conduct should be ensured, all the machinery and resources of the provincial government will be available for the conduct of the general elections.
