Interboard; Reversal of the decision to monitor the teachers who carry the examination paper

Karachi: Commissioner Karachi Sohail Rajput, who has taken additional charge of Inter Board Karachi, has finally withdrawn the decision entrusted to the CCOVs supervision board employees due to his inexperience and issued an office order in this regard on 12 The office order of January has been cancelled.

On the other hand, due to the numerous complaints and failure of a large number of students in the results of the first inter-year, only scrutiny has been announced.

It should be noted that this scrutiny is traditionally done every year as per rules and there is no scope for redressal of students’ complaints. According to the details, two different meetings were held in Inter Board Karachi under the chairmanship of Commissioner Karachi. The issue of failure of students in different faculties was also reviewed.

After the discussion in the meeting, it was revealed to the Commissioner Karachi that there is no law or rules for involving board employees with CCOVs or vigilance of CCOVs by board employees at the stage of carrying examination papers. I am in a position whereupon a fresh office order has been issued revoking this decision.

It is stated that under the decision, the supplementary examinations will be conducted on the same pattern as the previous years in which each examination center will have a single Center Control Officer. Office Order 600/2024 issued on January 12 has been cancelled. Apart from this, after this meeting, a press statement was also issued by Inter Board Karachi, in which it is stated that in the results of the annual examinations 2023 of inter year first pre-medical, pre-engineering, general science, home economics and special candidates, students Complaints and concerns have been noted.

According to the declaration, the grievances of the students will be redressed through the process of scrutiny, for which the scrutiny forms will be submitted to the board from January 17. It is worth noting here that under the rules of the education boards, the affected student is not shown his examination copy but is only informed about the result of scrutiny. There is a “re-totaling” of the marks awarded or if any answer is left out of assessment, it is assessed, however the examiner/teacher has evaluated the questions and answers to the standard and whether the marks awarded are correct or below the required standard. It is not assessed because the law does not exist due to which it is likely that even after the scrutiny, the Commissioner Karachi will not be able to resolve the complaints or concerns of the first year inter-year students.

A college principal in Karachi said on the condition of anonymity that “many teachers who have checked their exam copies have been spoken to. As the inquiry was going on, many teachers were of the opinion that the marks should be withheld while checking the copies and it is likely that a large number of students were disenfranchised.

The principal questioned that if the teachers have worked unnecessarily hard in checking the copies, then how can the commissioner fix it, so a high-level committee should be formed consisting of subject specialists in which the teachers are not included. “Those who have checked the copies” here also raises the question that if the mistakes of the teachers come to light during this re-checking of the copies, can any action be taken against these teachers? If these results continue to prevail, there is a possibility that the ratio of the results of the students in the second inter-year will be very low, due to which the merit of the students admitted to the universities for the batch of 2025 may also fall.
