Karachi: The search committee formed for the appointment of Vice Chancellor of Federal Urdu University has shortlisted 45 out of 111 candidates who will be called for interviews at the end of this month after checking the documents and CVs.
The shortlisting was done on the basis of the marks allotted on the basis of the CV which was 50, however some members of the search committee strongly criticized the strategic plan for Urdu University 10 marks included in this marking. .
According to the sources close to the convener of the search committee, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, some members said that how the marks will be determined on the basis of the CV, the candidate must attend the interview, after which the decision was made. It was said that the decision should be made on the basis of 40 marks.
It was decided that the candidates with 25% marks i.e. 20 marks out of the remaining allotted 40 marks would be called for interview after which 45 candidates appeared who were fulfilling the prescribed criteria with 25% marks.
On the other hand, the sources of HEC further said that during the ongoing discussion on the said criteria, when the name of Dr. Rubina Mushtaq came up, the chairman HEC while addressing the members of the search committee from Urdu University indicated that on this criteria, your (Acting) Vice-Chancellor is also getting out of the shortlisting, on which the rest of the members remained silent, while one member said that it is better than commenting that they should also be judged on quality.
It should be noted that Chairman HEC and Convener Search Committee Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Vice Chancellor NED University Professor Dr. Sarosh Lodhi and Dr. Nadira Panjwani participated online in the meeting, Dr. AQ Mughal, Dr. Akhlaq Hussain and Kashif Rifat attended the meeting. It has been decided that the interviews of the shortlisted candidates after the foreign visits of the Chairman HEC will probably be held at the Regional Office of the HEC in Karachi after January 25 as 20 of the shortlisted candidates More than belong to Karachi.
It was also decided in the meeting that the names of the shortlisted candidates from the interview will be presented in the Senate meeting in the first week of February so that a permanent vice-chancellor can be appointed in Jamia Urdu before the election.
