Peshawar: The petition of contempt of court against Election Commission by PTI was fixed for hearing in Peshawar High Court.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf has filed a contempt of court petition against the Election Commission for non-implementation of the Peshawar High Court’s decision regarding intra-party elections and electoral symbols, which is scheduled for hearing tomorrow. The application will be heard by a two-member bench of the Peshawar High Court, which includes Justice Shakeel Ahmed and Justice Waqar Ahmed.
Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, Secretary Election Commission and members of the Election Commission have been made parties in the petition filed in the High Court on the issue of intra-party election and the restoration of electoral symbol bats.
In the petition filed through the mediation of Qazi Anwar and Shah Faisal Ilyas, it has been argued that despite the court orders, the Election Commission has not yet issued the certificate to PTI. The party certificate was also not published on the website of the Election Commission.
The petition further states that the Election Commission is aware of the court decision, yet it has not published it. Despite the clear orders of the court, the parties are creating obstacles in the way of PTI’s general elections. This action of the Election Commission falls under the category of contempt of court.
